Jacky Buder, CEO and Founder
When he was in his late teens, Jacky pioneered bodyboarding moves that are still emulated almost 20 years later. He won international titles as an amateur and later, professional body boarder. Best known for his drop-knee style, young surfers today see Jacky as their hero.
He retired from bodyboarding to settle down and started his family. He had a dream of opening his own apparel company and created a stunning and unique logo featuring the Hawaiian islands as the toes of a left foot. Just as he was launching his Barefoot League brand, however, tragedy struck.
Over the course of a week, Jacky went from being a strong, healthy family man to being swallowed by an endless sea of tubing and devices when he developed Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). The condition left him literally paralyzed from head to toe. His condition inspired his family, friends and fans worldwide to rally in his honor and inspire him. He fought for his life for an entire year, and continues his amazing recovery to this day, still dealing with lingering effects.
Throughout his illness, Jacky held close to his dream of expanding his Barefoot League brand and opening his own store. In January 2008, he opened the doors of his flagship store in Kapahulu. Recognizing the impact of so many people in his life, Jacky remains committed to helping others to perform at their very best in all of their endeavors and gives generously to charitable causes.
